Karl and Zach rode 46 miles today from Clinton, Missouri to Butler, Missouri. They had planned on making it to Kansas today but when they stopped for lunch, Karl tried reaching the only hotel in the town hoped to stay in Kansas to be sure they would have a room for them and had to leave a message on the hotel's answering machine. By the time the hotel returned his call it was getting too late for them to travel the additional 20 miles to that town.
